In this sense, it is shameful if you havent reserved the latest edition of Charlie Hebdo in solidarity with its journalist-victims and in recognition of the right to insult and humiliate whoever the West likes. If dialogue with the West continues like this, not only will it become tiresome, but God only knows what calamity awaits before the West awakens from its illusion of global domination! The mad West is burning, yet Obama insists on forcing us to submit and be obedient. Decades ago in Lebanon (1970s-1980s), people tried to persuade the (Christian) right, led by the Phalange Party, not to go too far looking for external backing to protect its interests. It told the right that all the outside power in the world wouldnt prevent the changes that had to be made. (The largely-Muslim left, which included a good number of Christians, wanted political reform, including greater representation in the legislature, meaning fewer Christian seats). Yet the right resorted to the sectarian religious weapon and began to justify its actions based on fear of the influence of the Muslim majority! So it was said that Kamal Jumblatt and Yasser Arafat were forever seeking ways to reassure [Phalange Party leader] Pierre Gemayel by telling him: do not fear [reform]! His answer: Its not important what you say. Whats important is that I will not feel afraid! [Meaning he would seek outside support – which turned out to be Israel]. Today it would be exceedingly difficult to convince the West that its policies, freedoms, media, universities and way of life must embrace real change to bring about equality. The West has decided that its dark-skinned minorities and people from the south want to sabotage its lifestyle and civilization. In its stupidity and the belief that it rules the entire world, the West gives itself the right to do what it deems appropriate to protect its interests. Not only is it in a state of well-practiced denial, the West insists on its right to control the biggest share of the planets wealth while denying others the right to criticize it on the grounds that that Westerners worked harder to get where they are. Today people in the West will tell you: You are an Arab and a Muslim, meaning you are a backward! They will find among our people, not only among our rulers, some who accept this characterization. In recent days we have heard many of the sons of our people and culture chanting: Stop the justifications, explanations or clarifications. We are responsible for the crime! If neo-Nazis come out and commit massacres, someone from the West would justify these as a reaction! Whats so frightening is not the level of Western racism and oppression. In the countries of the Levant and Maghreb servility is all weve known for at least over a hundred years. Whats frightening is the monster released among us and that has shown its face in France will be the strongest yet, will find supporters and will have an agenda of acts so insane that weve never witnessed them before. It will mark the declining influence of the wise and reasonable. What will the stubborn West say now? Will it say: Now you have shown your true backward and cruel self? Will it say: You have turned my mirror, which I was long trying to shatter, into your own [i.e.: Muslims are behaving like the West behaved in the past but was trying to stop, so now the West will behave badly again]. Or will someone emerge to shout down his peers and bring them back to their senses? Until then, let us consider what it is we want. The truth is that the racist monster dwelling in the Western mind will dominate the scene, and it would be foolish to greet it with flowers. The events of recent days are like the most horrifying prayer for blood. For anyone participating, either voluntarily or against their will, it is a dirty game. Such is the period of bloody chaos in which we live today, from Iraq to Syria, from Lebanon to Palestine, which is preparing the ground for a global phenomenon. Let everyone stand firm and keep as cool as possible. Let us reserve the right to loudly say no in the face of an insane West that will be consumed by the fire of its hatred; and let is also reserve the right to say no to this eras madmen among our own … but let nothing force us to retreat or surrender.
