In German, the prefix “haupt” signifies “main” or “central.” Thus, whereas the word “Bahnhof” means “train station,” and every German city has numerous train stations, each city has only one “Haupt-bahnhof” — only one *main* train station. Likewise, as I view it, although we now have 140 temples, only one is the “Haupt-temple,” the main temple, because only one temple has a Holy of Holies (the very nucleus of the Church, one might say) — and that is, of course, the Salt Lake Temple. The following is an informative video about the symbols that are embedded in the masonry of our Haupt-temple — the design of which was inspired by the great Brigham Young himself. Note the following commentary in the video: “The very architecture of the temple expresses a spiritual fortress. If you look at the base of the temple, the solid-granite walls of the temple are up to 16 feet thick. At the top of the temple, the spires are covered with these battlements that are protecting the temple and the sacred truths that are taught inside the temple. And even the doorways to the temple are guarded and narrow, protecting all those who enter.” How fascinating: “a mighty fortress is our God” indeed! Be sure to give this brief video a watch. https://youtube/watch?v=niNZK9aDnAg
