In Germany you get a €5,000 tax rebate if your child is in private education. Private schools save UK taxpayers over £8bn a year - roughly half coming as income from taxes paid by private schools the other half from the cost saving of not having to educate the more than 650,000 children who are in private education. Also 90%+ of private schools have extensive programmes of facility sharing, outreach both local and international, bursaries and scholarships, places for disadvantaged or bereaved service families, etc. etc. Yet Tristram Hunt (himself privately educated - not the only senior Labour politician to be so) has declared class war on private schools ... shouldnt Labour focus on how they are going to make the state school system better so that nobody needs or wants to go to private school instead of attacking them on the spurious basis of equality ! Once again Labour are resorting to the politics of envy and social engineering taking everything down to the lowest common denominator ... if they carry on at this rate they will soon start talking about a single Comprehensive education system ! Hunt cant have his cake and eat it ... if he wants private schools not be charities then paying private school fees should be tax deductible order-order/2014/11/25/private-education-should-be-tax-deductible/
