In HS I was a fat, white/Japanese, and now looking back a bit socially awkward. In theory HS shouldve been awful. However thank you to my band class I felt like I belonged. And thanks to an amazing teacher who did more than teach music he helped me (and I am certain every one of his students over the years would agree) find my confidence, my self worth, determination, and of course my LOVE of music! He is and always will be one of my role models. I just wish the school systems wouldve supported music and the arts so that other students who may have struggled in HS couldve felt the same kindness that I was lucky enough to experience. I am a perfect example of why music and arts are more to school than just learning a talent. PLEASE support your music and arts programs. Thank you to Mark Krawczyk for sharing this and thank you Kaye Berigan for being an amazing teacher!
