In Haiti, extreme poverty decreased 7% between 2000 and 2012. However, the country remains the most unequal in the region, and extreme poverty rates in rural areas have stayed largely the same over the same period of time. Globally, rural poverty is often higher, says World Bank Director Sri Indrawati.
