In Japan, after New Years days, we eat rice cake with red beans soup. (or other cooking way) During New Years days, we display the Big Round Rice Cake (called in Japanese KAGAMI MOCHI. Mirror looking rice cake.) with other long life and good harvest represented display for asking God and Buddha for our happy life like good health, familys safety. After one week from New Years days, we bring down and make Big Round Rice Cake smaller pieces for eating. We cannot use knife but wooden hammer. if we use a knife, it reminds of HARAKIRI. We believe that after praying to God or Buhhda, the rice cake have a power. So we eat them for our good health and safety of the family.
