In John 22-25 we find Jesus at a very special time in His life. And it was at Jerusalem the Feast of the Dedication, and it was winter. It was a special time of His life because He was in Jerusalem for the observance of what we know today as Hanukkah or The Feast of Lights. It was a special time for Him for another reason too. It is very possible that this was the time which marked His birth date.. And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomons porch. This was not unusual, because it was his custom to come to the Temple to teach the Word of God. But it was winter. More than likely, it was rainy and cold. The weather was bad. The days had grown shorter and darker. The Jewish Feast of Lights coincided with the winter solstice, the time of the shortest day and the longest night. It was on this day as the ancients would say, a new sun was born in anticipation of the coming summer season. Certainly, it was on the Saviours birth date that the Sun of Righteousness was born in anticipation of the coming Kingdom Age. Matthew and Luke begin with the events of the birth of Christ. John begins with the coming of Light into the darkness of this world. He writes, This is the true Light. What better time for His appearing than at The Feast of Lights? Then came the Jews round about Him, and said unto Him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: . . . How sad!! I told you, and ye believed not. At this festive season, all Jerusalem was illuminated for eight days and nights, yet the people were still in darkness. I am afraid we still have the same problem today. The pages of the Bible glow with the Glorious Light of the Gospel of Christ. All of Creation exclaims it. Every God-called preacher proclaims it, yet the world goes on in the darkness of sin and condemnation. The first Bible verses I ever memorized are still fresh in my mind and heart: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth The Lord Jesus and believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Believe on The Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved! Do it today, without further delay!! Photo: In John 22-25 we find Jesus at a very special time in His life. And it was at Jerusalem the Feast of the Dedication, and it was winter.
