In June 2007, at age 57, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Most people I mentioned my diagnosis to would tell me, “They have come such a long way in the treatment of prostate cancer, it’s no big deal.” Well, 6½ years later, broke, thousands of dollars in debt to M.D. Anderson and other medical facilities, complete with chemo, surgery, another round of chemo and expensive oral medications, I’m here to tell you that prostate cancer is a big deal.
