In June of 1974 Kieth Jackson was 18 years old and mounting his Japanese road bike in the northern woods of Alaska, headed to Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Nine month and 18,000 miles later Kieth Jackson accomplished faster and younger than anyone, this adventure ride. But the most impressive thing about this journey was the section called The Darien Gap. This is 300 mile area of swampy, mesquito , snake invested Jungle, between Panama and Columbia. Keith went into this unfriendly, unfit for human life jungle with boots on, his bike on his back and a guide...and comes out barefoot, no guide and a mangled mess of metal that he referred to as Mr. Binkley...his bike! Keith continued on riding all of South America and completed his journey. I had the privilege of going to a private boarding school with Keith. I knew him as a teenager and now I know him through his writings. I also know Keith through his adventure ride. We virtually rode the same route...he on a bicycle and me almost 40 years later on a motorcycle. After reading his writings I have the conviction that this needs to be turned into a movie, so that all can see it, hear it, feel it. This is a true drama of emotions, hardships, pain, happiness, sadness, love, hate, loneliness, victories and passion. This story needs to be told. If anyone has great contacts within the world of film, Hollywood, Beverly Hills that would be a conduit to making this happen, please let me know.
