In March of 2011 OSGATA initiated a lawsuit to prevent Monsanto from suing farmers who had inadvertantly had their fields contaminated with genetically modified seed. Going all the way to the Supreme Court, OSGATA lost the case because no farmer has ever been sued for Monsanto for accidental contamination. In late 2014, the Oregon Governors Task Force on Genetically Engineered Seeds raised concerns that inferior organic seed might contaminate the land of farmers that wish to use genetically engineered seed. As GE seed contains superior qualities and benefits over that of organic seed, and conventional farmers are key to the economy and sustainability of US agriculture, we ask that OSGATA simply take the same pledge that Monsanto has. One of their members, Jonhnnys Selected Seeds, offers patented seed. Conventional farmers need to be assured that they will not be sued by either Johnnys Selected Seed, or OSGATA. monsantoblog/2012/02/27/osgata-v-monsanto-a-ruling-for-all-agriculture/ osgata.org/members/ johnnyseeds/assets/information/understanding_utility_patents_and_pvp.pdf
