In March of this year I returned home to The Colburn School of Performing Arts (CSPA) in Los Angeles and was awarded the 2014 CSPA Distinguished Alumni Award. Each year they give an award to an artist recognizing their achievement in the performing arts. But this year CSPA decided to create an award specifically for alumni. I am humbled and grateful that the CSPA family chose me to be the first recipient of this award. It was an amazing experience to travel back to Colburn where I trained musically since I was 14 years old (barely speaking English!) and later worked as a piano teacher for nearly ten years; to visit with my teachers Teresa DeJong Pombo, Joe Thayer, Toby Mayman Jeff Lavner, Clay Jenkins and Lee Secard, the Colburn faculty, family and friends. I also had a chance to work and perform with current Colburn students and witness the AMAZING talents these young jazz artists have to offer. (Lookout NYC!! Colburn graduates are coming your way!! LOL!!) A special thanks to Sara Hiner for her hard work in coordinating the entire event and taking care of my family and I in an extraordinary way. And of course, I am very grateful to Sel Kardan… for bestowing this very high honor to me. I am moved beyond words. Thank you Colburn Family!!
