In March of this year, a 10 meter long sperm whale washed up on Spain’s South Coast. This whale had swallowed 59 different plastic items totaling over 37 pounds. Most of this plastic consisted of transparent sheeting used to build greenhouses in Almeria and Grenada for the purpose of tomatoes for the European market. The solutions we need to see happen must begin with the processes by which we are creating products in the world today. We must begin by taking accountability of the full implications and impacts the development of products that we are using and implementing into our everyday uses have throughout the life time those products exist. Everything is connected and nothing just disappears or goes away, but it is transformed or absorbed into the body of another.
