In Matthew chapter 7, Jesus was against the religious leaders’ judgmental attitude, the nit-picking and their fault-finding behavior. Condemnation of others, Jesus says, is a violation of the Law itself they are trying to enforce and condemn others. In addition they failed to examine themselves first. Their seeming conformity to the Law fall short greatly from the standard of God, neither anyone can live up to it except the Lord Jesus. That is the reason Jesus says to His audience that their righteousness should exceed that of the Pharisees and the scribes if they are to enter the kingdom of God. Only Gods gift of righteousness in Christ is acceptable to the Father.
