In Matthew chapter seven, Jesus dealt with expected behaviors and attitudes in addition to obeying outwardly the provisions of the Law. These behaviors readily observable and visible, I believe, would be proofs of the pure motives and intentions of law-compliance. Outward compliance just for the sake of it or for obligation’s sake is hypocrisy even how good it looks from the outside. Jesus wanted them to know it is impossible to please God under the old covenant of law to prepare them for the need of the new covenant of grace. ~Leopoldo B. Solis
