In May of 2013, CSBR received a call about a Saint Bernard at the Denver Animal Shelter who was involved in a neglect case with the Denver Police. They needed CSBR to care for the dog until the case was over and the dog was released for adoption. When Laura Jesik picked up Little B (Beethoven) from DMAS, she was FLOORED. He was so thin and all his toe nails were curled under his pads. He also had a really bad head tilt. This poor boy was a mess. They started by cutting his nails and brushing him. Then they tried to feed him but he was only able to open his mouth a quarter of normal range. He could only handle small walks to the end of the driveway and back because he had so little muscle strength. Every day his food intake, growth, etc. was carefully recorded. Little B only weighed 82 lbs. at his first vet visit. They took xrays of his jaw to determine what was going on. It turns out he simply had too little muscle mass in his jaw to open his mouth. Despite all of this, he had the attitude of a 2 year old kid. He just wanted to have fun and was known for playfully carrying his leash around in his mouth. He simply loved everyone and everything. When Laura sent out an email to the group to see if someone would be able to foster him, she had several wonderful families offer. The Byrne family turned out to be the perfect fit for Lil B and he soon became one of the family. As Little B continued to grow he also continued to have problems. His kidney levels were too high and he developed two growths on his front leg and his back foot. This week Little B just couldnt fight anymore and his daddy(Ian) was with him to help him join so many others at the Rainbow Bridge. CSBR would like to thank Jeanette, Ian, Naomi, and Danielle for fostering him, loving him and doing everything right by Lil B. Hugs from everyone at CSBR during this difficult time.
