In Moldova, as in some other eastern European countries, StreetMercy has come to describe a very special project carried on by MWB. The goal of StreetMercy is to provide meals and exemplify Christian love to society’s “outcasts” which includes the homeless and other persons living on the streets. We do this in partnership with local area churches, by distributing warm & hearty meals, creating an atmosphere of fellowship & trust, and providing information, resources and assistance upon need. One such project was started a year ago in Straseni. Every week, from 20 to 40 people receive assistance. Ghenadie and Maria are two such people, who do not have their own home and have to rely on StreetMercy to receive at least one hearty meal and a cup of hot tea a day. But it is not just a simple plate of food, it is opportunity for these folk – the neglected members of Moldova society – to talk, to be encouraged, and most importantly to be reminded that God loves them and that each one is special in His eyes.
