In NYC, I crossed a street in light traffic with the closest car - TopicsExpress

In NYC, I crossed a street in light traffic with the closest car 30 (or more) away, traveling slowly because it was driving into a T-intersection. I was stopped by a reasonably friendly officer who warned me I had been jaywalking and it was dangerous. After asking me a few questions, he said there was no reason to issue a ticket. End of story? No. His partner, perhaps in a bad mood, decided to write a summons, not a jaywalking ticket which would have, at most, been a fine, but a summons for obstructing traffic. The summons required me to appear in criminal court. If I had wanted to plead innocent, it wouldve meant another court appearance with legal costs. I was given a six months variation of probation. Know your rights. I didnt, but I will next time.
