In Nehemiah 3 we see the work of rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem being delegated to various groups. The importance of the wall is for protection of the city. Without the walls and gates properly built and maintained, the city is vulnerable to the enemy. This is why invaders destroyed walls of cities – so the inhabitants would not feel secure nor like they were a community, a safe place to live and prosper. The building of the wall and gates required Nehemiah knowing the condition of it all; Nehemiah knowing his resources of people and materials. Then Nehemiah motivated the people to do the work. He was able to do this because he had a plan and he found the resources to work the plan. Listen my friend; we all need to build walls of protection in our lives. Without walls securing our place of living, the enemy (Satan) comes and destroys all the fruit of our labor (especially our family) as well as us. How do we build walls around our community, our family, and our lives? The answer is prayer because it is a spiritual issue. Through prayer God does His supernatural ‘thing.’ Through prayer we come to understand our part in the labor intensive process. This will lead us to do things like: pray for family members by name and need; pray for walls of protection around them so the enemy cannot get to them; teach them to fight the spiritual war Satan is raging; teach them to put on the spiritual armor of God; and do all of this for ourselves as well. Commit to build your walls….
