In Newfoundland, the water meets the local watering hole … This week, #WaterWednesday takes you to Canada’s Atlantic coast, where the people are friendly, the fjords are impressive and the beer is one of a kind! Quidi Vidi Lake in Newfoundland & Labrador, located just a few minutes outside of downtown St. John’s, offers delightful views of colourful houses perched along the water and is also a popular site for sporting events. In fact, Quidi Vidi Lake hosts one of the oldest continuous sporting events in North America, the Royal St. Johns Regatta. Dating back to 1816, this boating race still takes place on the first Wednesday of August each year. A newer attraction in the provincial capital is Quidi Vidi Brewing Company , which has been producing award-winning craft beer since 1996. Its Iceberg Beer is the only beer in the world made with water from icebergs! It’s so popular among Newfoundland residents that its blue bottles have become collector’s items. You can enjoy one straight from the brewery, which sits alongside the splendid little lake that it’s named after.(quidividibrewery.ca/) For more information on Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism, visit: newfoundlandlabrador/ Each week, we spotlight Canada’s lakes, rivers and oceans.
