In Nigeria, there is nothing like war against terrorism as such; it is rather a class war. The workers and youths have taken arms against the lumpenproletarian Boko Haram barbarians created by a section of bourgeoisie in Northeastern Nigeria. Organized into self-defense committees of workers, artisans and peasantry, these so-called Civilian JTF had formed an organic alliance with rank and file security forces. Meanwhile, the military is equally splitting along class lines with the corrupt army chiefs stealing funds meant for equipment and welfare of the rank and file soldiers. Mutinies by the latter confirm this internal struggle within the military. The rank and file had to fight both Boko Haram on one hand and death sentences from the top army officers on the other hand. Their natural allies remain the self-defense committees of workers and youth. Organized labour (NLC/TUC) and Nigerias left as well as the civil society organizations of middle classes must intervene in this struggle. Organized labour has the capacity to organise self-defense committees into a national structure and network. But in the final analysis, only capture of political power by Nigerian workers can defeat terrorism. This is inevitably bound to socialist reconstruction of the country.
