In November, migrating raptors can be viewed from the Marin Headlands in Sausalito. We drove past the lagoon (shown in 5th photo) and went to Rodeo Beach, where off-leash dogs happily leapt and played with other dogs. Some ran in and out of the waves. Lou, Duncan Clark, May Mei (who runs WildAid in China) and I climbed to the top of the hill, with Bobo and Tux leading the way. On this short walk, we ran into many friendly dogs, including one that was missing a hind leg and doing just fine as he hopped uphill. We heard the deep caw of a raven, saw a few crows, and also the ubiquitous turkey vultures circling for dead animals. No hawks or peregrine falcons were spotted this time. Cut into the hill is a bunker, built during the Cold War era. Bobo explored a defunct cannon. We held onto the dogs leashes. Looking down from the cliffs, you can see steep drops and certain death. But when you look up, the views give you the sense you are on top of the world, and within that spot of sky, you are.
