In November of last year the discovery of the Gurlitt art trove - TopicsExpress

In November of last year the discovery of the Gurlitt art trove came to light and there was a big scramble by those who are searching for Holocaust era looted art to know what was in the collection. I came upon a list of the collection put together by the Allies in the aftermath of the war that included an item that included the entry Rayski? and a description that said, 1937...Men Playing At Cards. I couldnt find a photograph of the piece and while I thought it was unlikely that Hildebrand Gurlitt (and then his son, Cornelius) had come into possession of a Moshe Rynecki painting, I wrote to the appropriate parties to inquire about whether or not it might be one of my great-grandfathers pieces. Somewhat ironically, while I was in Poland I got a letter from the Schwabinger Kunstfund Taskforce informing me that, after extensive research within the Schwabing Art Trove we have to inform you that paintings of Moshe Rynecki are not part of the Gurlitt collection. Included in this post is the original list I saw last year as well as an excerpt of the letter I recently received.
