In November this year we worked in partnership with North Tyneside Council and Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to deliver a Love Your Lungs COPD awareness campaign. The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness of COPD, encourage early diagnosis and reduce future hospital admissions. At the six events, local nurses used handheld spirometry devices to screen people for COPD, referring anyone whose lung function was lower than expected to their GP for further testing. Almost 700 members of the public were screened. Across the six events BLF health information was distributed and the local smoking cessation team was present to offer advice to those wanting to find out how to quit smoking. If youre worried about any ongoing symptoms, such as a persistent cough, you can visit your GP and ask for a test. And keep your eye on our website to find out if there are any events near you in the future! If you have been diagnosed with COPD or care for someone with COPD, check out our interactive patient pathway to find out more information about the disease copdpathway.blf.org.uk/
