In Oklahoma there is a dental bill that is being sneaked through that allows oral maxillofacial surgical assistants (dental assistants) to start and maintain IVs, perform phlebotomy and assist in the administration of anesthesia in a dental office, ASC or hospital. Without any type of formal training, just OJT (on the job training). UNBELIEVABLE! Theres an article in an Oklahoma paper today about a dentist in Tulsa who infected patients with Hep C by using vials of propofol on multiple patients. He is also accused of allowing assistants to monitor and administer the anesthetics.
