If a Beastie Boy farted 20, 25, 30 years ago, the mainstream media would be slobbering for weeks about which Beastie Boy farted, how it smelled, what that Beastie Boy ate to manifest said fart, the cultural impact of said fart, how hip-hops DNA was completely restructured by said fart and all of the other knock-off punk rockers, rappers, cultural dilettanti and hipsters who were influenced by said fart. In the last few years weve seen boucoup hyped anniversary shout outs to Pauls Boutique, Licensed To Ill, and Hot Sauce Committee. Now dont get it twisted--Im a Beastie Boys fan. But SERIOUSLY? This landmark album changed THE ENTIRE GAME for ALL OF HIP-HOP!!! This group PUT THE BEASTIE BOYS ON THE MAP!!! This group single-handedly AEROSMITHS foundering, drug-addled career!!! And NO ONE in the mainstream media (outside of Yahoo) has even seen fit to MENTION this! I distinctly remember when every media outlet bellowed about the 25th anniversary of License... And didnt make a PEEP about another album released that same year, Run DMCs watershed Raisin Hell. The only reason I found out was because Chuck D has been throwing this up on Public Enemys page all day today. Seriously? WTF??? Really... W? T? F??? Whatever hip-hop is today is because THESE DUDES took hip-hop to the ultimate level. That is UNDENIABLE! INARGUABLE! NON-DEBATABLE! It incenses me when Black innovators and pioneers continually end up being footnotes or afterthoughts. This album changed the game for EVERYBODY. The WHOLE GODDAMN WORLD needs to RECOGNIZE!!!
