In Pailin farm we just finish harvesting, we grow cassava. It probably not well known in Japan, however cassava is pretty major crops that are grown in many countries. Since sweet type of cassava is being staple food for 800 million people in the world, it is said that Cassava is feeding the world. Its grown in tropical and savanna climate such as in SE Asia or Africa. Currently Nigeria has the highest cassava production and then comes Thailand, Indonesia and Brazil. Cambodia is at 10th place in 2013, however because of its futile soil and ideal climate, cassava production of Cambodia shall be increase rapidly. There are sweet type and bitter type in Cassava. Sweet type can be eaten directly as same as regular potato and tapioca pearls we enjoy in our desert drinks are made by starch of cassava. Cassava can be used to produce animal feed as well. Bitter type has more variety in its usage, it can be an ingredients of factory use glue to bio ethanol and bio plastic. Since the price of a corn, current ingredients of bio ethanol, is going up, cassava is getting eyes as next source for bio ethanol production. The picture is the sweet cassava that I ate for my snack today! It tastes like bit less sweet yuca potato. Another picture is the cassava we harvested in our farm. The size of one potato can grow bigger than the size of your thigh. 先日収穫が終了したパイリンの農地ではキャッサバが栽培されています。 日本ではあまり馴染みの無いキャッサバですが、海外ではメジャーな作物として世界各国で栽培されており、甘味種と呼ばれる食用キャッサバは世界の８億人の主食となっていることから「キャッサバが世界を養う」と言われているほどです。 主に熱帯雨林気候またサバナ気候と呼ばれるアジアやアフリカでそのほとんどが栽培され、現在生産量が最も多いのがナイジェリア、そしてタイ、インドネシア、ブラジルと続きます。２０１３年時点でカンボジアでのキャッサバ生産量は世界で１０位となっていますが、カンボジアの持つ肥沃な土地と適した気候から生産量は今後急激に増えると考えられています。 キャッサバには甘味種と呼ばれる食用になる種類と苦味種と呼ばれる主に加工用として栽培されるものがあり、甘味種はそのままゆでるなどして食用となるほか、加工する事によって生産されるでんぷんから私達もよく知るタピオカ等となり、また家畜の飼料原料としても使われます。 苦味種のキャッサバの用途は更に多様で、工業用のり（接着剤）、バイオエタノールやバイオプラスチックの原料となります。現在のバイオエタノール原料であるとうもろこしの価格上昇等から、今後新しいバイオエタノール原料としてキャッサバが更に注目を浴びると見られています。 写真は、今日のおやつに食べた甘味種のキャッサバです！味はさつまいもとさといものまんなかの様な感じです。 もう一枚は、パイリン農場で先日収穫されたキャッサバです！大きい株だと、大人の足一本を越えるほどの大きさまで成長します。 ＊苦味種のキャッサバにはシアン化合物（青酸カリと同じ物質です）等の物質が含まれていますので、食べてはいけません。 #HUGSAgtech #Cassaa #Agriculture #Investment #Cambodia #カンボジア #農業 #投資
