In Puerto Rico, there are few (if any) options for animals that are removed from abusive homes by the authorities. These unfortunate animals are victimized twice - first by their abuser and then by the shelter system, where 99% of the animals who enter are killed upon intake or shortly after. Pets Alive Puerto Rico works with our local Animal Cruelty Investigator in Utuado to provide safe haven for abused & neglected dogs that would otherwise be taken to the shelter and killed. It is simply not possible for us to save every dog in need - but we have pledged to help as many as possible when they are referred to us by a certified ACO/ACI anywhere in Puerto Rico.
