In Season and Out, be Faithful Times have changed cultures through the millenniums. No generation has been a whole lot to brag about as far as goodness is concerned; however, the pendulum has swung back and forth through the ages between attempts at moral decency and moral collapse. In the past couple of generations, it has swung toward corruption and filth with the help of mass media, with a shocking sickening suddenness. It seems only yesterday that we never locked our doors This social cyclone has gradually affected almost everyone, some more than others, even affecting churches posing themselves as Christian. The true church is facing a very different social mind than it did about a 100 years ago during the great restoration movement. The populace is more secularist with almost no interest in biblical teaching, unless, of course, it is tolerate of sin, leaves their personal lives alone and is always stimulating in how to achieve in this world. Yes, there is a lot of love for religion, but not for the kind patterned after Gods word—too invasive. While all are not this way, many of the modern worshipers burst into applause at orations presenting a doting grandfather God that lavishes them with blessings always promising more of everything in life while always winking at things amiss in their personal lives. There is always heaven that is waiting for all religions and no hell to be shunned. Religion is not taken very seriously as life regulating but is a fun thing to be enjoyed like a high school graduation exercise where you and your neighbors children are graduating with honors. This is not to say that authentic Christianity is not to be enjoyed, it is filled with joy, but it is not irreverently frivolous at the expense of Bible truth. So, has this culture affected us? If you are under forty you probably dont think so, but if you are numbered with some of us old timers you know--absolutely know it has. Mainly the restoration appeal has lost its punch to the younger generation. But the pendulum swings and it may be a few years or a hundred or so for another Campell, Stone, or Larrymore to appear on the scene and the church will begin again taking the fight to the enemy by challenging them to religious discussions.
