In Today’s Industry News… Casting is underway for TRUE SPIRIT, a feature about teenager Jessica Watsons solo, around-the-world sailing adventure. The producer, Sunstar Entertainment’s Andrew Fraser, says the aim is to start shooting on the Gold Coast in July. Sarah Spillane will direct. Shooting starts next week in India on LION, a drama based on the true story of Saroo Brierley, an Indian-born Australian who found his birth mother 25 years after they were separated. Dev Patel will play the lead, with Nicole Kidman as Brierley’s adopted mother. And the MEAA is mounting a campaign to try to preserve its consultative role with federal government in response to this week’s announcement that the government is reviewing the regulations on the importing of film and TV performers and production personnel.
