In US - DC: The lighter side of the DC Universe this week, with three fondly-remembered series; Angel & the Ape, in which shapely model Angel O’Day and unusually hirsute cartoonist Sam Simeon made an out-of-the-ordinary detective team; lovingly illustrated by Bob Oksner, with Wally Wood inks on later issues, this title is highly sought-after, with issues after #2 having significantly lower print runs and seldom seen in the UK . We then continue with the Inferior Five, E. Nelson Bridwell’s heroic parody, originally conceived as a straight satire of the Fantastic Four, but transformed by ENB into something much richer, with ‘legacy hero’ conflicts and literary references a-plenty! (Issue #4 has more authentic Norse mythology than you’ll find in the entire run of Marvel’s Thor...) We close with new stock for Sugar & Spike, Sheldon Meyer’s saga of ‘Tomorrow’s Teen-Agers’.
