In Waterloo today, saw a guy selling sweet corn, I pull over and ask him if its GM corn. It is, so I say okay, nvm thank you and start to go back to my car. He asks whats wrong with it. I said its bad for you, it has insecticide in it. He tells me GM corn doesnt have insecticide in it. It has a modified gene. I ask him what the gene is, he doesnt know. I said its Bt, which is an insecticide. He said so, you would rather eat corn that has worms on it? Youd rather eat worms? I said, yes, I can remove the worms. In all the years of eating sweet corn, I have seen maybe 5 worms on the ears, not a big deal. He said, if it wasnt GM, I would spray insecticide on it, so its the same thing. I said, no because the insecticide goes on the outside of the ear which has the husk on it, it doesnt go into the ear, then into my stomach. I husk the corn, then wash it so it would not have insecticide on it and if you treated the soil correctly, so you have healthy soil, you dont have to apply insecticide because it is in healthy soil naturally. I said, Also, I dont support Monsanto. He said, What, we couldnt feed the world without Monsanto. You have got to be kidding me. Corporate mouthpiece. Needless to say, we did not buy any sweet corn today. My patch is almost ready though, guess Ill wait. :p
