In a Houston Chronicle editorial today (Nov 28, 2014), justice is demanded for innocent MAX SOFFAR #000685. In this case (like so many others), sloppy police work (allowing the crime scene to be cleaned up within four hours) and heavy handed police work (Max signed a confession written for him during three days of interrogation) were the order of the day. The Feds granted a new trial in 2006 and defense attorneys found the person who most likely committed the crime, but he never testified because prosecutors threatened him. And, this really happened: In final arguments during the trial, prosecutors told the jurors they should convict Soffar because the defense had FAILED TO OFFER AN ALTERNATE PERPETRATOR!! Now, the State of Texas and TDC refuses to let this innocent, dying man out of prison to die in the arms of his wife, Anita. THIS IS SAD, SAD, SAD. We, from around the world, stand shoulder to shoulder with Max and Anita in demanding the Board of Pardons and Paroles to the right thing today! Please share widely.
