In a TV interview, a young girl in a village in Orissa explains why she chose to study veterinary science: Humans are able to express their discomfort and pain. Animals are unable to do so. Thats why I want to learn to treat them and relieve them of their pain. What a simple beautiful explanation. Really touched my heart. But wait there is more to this girl... She was interviewed for her innovative sunstroke prevention umbrella that sounds an alarm when the temperature rises beyond a Threshold, so that the user ca pull the handle and pump up water that rains from the tops of the umbrella cooling down the air around and soaking the foam layered umbrella to provide respite from the heat. She was inspired to invent this when temperatures soared to scorching highs in Orissa and many farmers died from a sunstroke. Talk about need based innovation, real needs - life saving solutions.
