In a couple of days itll be July 31st and 8 hyper-fast years since the Blackaddar Ayrshire dispersal at Frenchfort, Prince Edward Island, July 31, 2006. . Dad and I traveled over to The Island from the homestead in northern Nova Scotia on July 30th and stayed with Wayne and Linda Boswell and attended the sale the next day. As the sale progressed I mused ( Im rather good at that!) about buying a calf in the sale but allowed the complications of doing so to stop me. Once I saw the list of buyers I decided to ask Grant Roy of Oakburn Farms in Howick, Quebec if I could buy into a spring 2006 calf hed bought. Apparently she must have been registration pending as we named her Blackaddar Gin N Ginger. Partners were Jake Lussier son of Linda Ness, Lindsay Roy Grant and Caroline Beaulieus daughter and yours truly. GNG grew up at Oakburn and when the Roys dispersed their herd she migrated a short distance to Terrance Bank where Jason Ness became our herd manager. She was stingy with daughters and not always easy to get in calf. She milked well and carried a modest score. She never got to be Royal Champion as much as we (okay I) predicted it nor did she become the dam of one. (Oh boo hoo!). Recently it was time for her to go.....and so Jason released her form this world...also known as sent her for beef! :-) . While she may never have been a world beater she was loved. She did build a bridge back to my teenage years when wed show against the Boswall family and I can clearly recall her fifth dam or so Lealands Gem Lass 2 (born in 1966) a big white Meredith Forester cow and her full sib....Lealands Foresters Victoria (born in 1968)..two formidable show cows back in the day....... She did allow us to honour the amazing late George Boswall, squire of Blackaddar and his family, even though she never gave us a heifer calf we could call Georgie Girl. (Her one baby girl named Ginger Snap was ill-fated.) We are thankful for the chance to be part of carrying on the world-renowned Blackaddar story....and now......we have some beef money to shop for another red and white Ayrshire calf...maybe one with Blackaddar genes too? #weshallsee #thanksGNG #thanksRoyandNessfamilies #letuspresson #ayrshirelove
