In a court of law, hearsay is inadmissible for a reason, unless the statement spoken by the person other than the declarant falls under one of the various exceptions to the Hearsay rule. Theres a reason for this. A court is on a mission to find the truth. These days, the truth has become a funny thing, hasnt it? Someone takes a stand against bullying or plagiarism and they become a victim of bullying themselves. Its a sad thing to happen, especially in this Indie community when we should be supporting each other, bloggers, authors, artists... Everyone. What pisses me off to no end is when someone makes an accusation without any supporting documentation. Having worked in the criminal justice field, both for the prosecution and the defense, I understand the burden placed on someone bringing charges against someone else (mainly from working at the prosecutors office because the burden of proof is on the state to prove guilt.) Therefore, when Im contacted by someone who Ive never spoken to before, claiming that a dear friend and someone that has supported me since day one has stolen, and cant offer any proof, theres no way in hell Ill actually believe you. I beg all of you out there. Dont believe everything you read or hear. Seek the truth before assembling your mob with pitchforks. Arent we better than that? The indie author community gets enough negative press on occasion. Why add to that? There are always two sides to every story and sometimes the initial accusation isnt always true. I cant believe I even had to post this. #growup
