In a famous interview, featured in the video below, J. Robert Oppenheimer spoke about his participation in the Manhattan Project. He felt a tremendous weight of conscience. He expressed his deep feelings of guilt. He spoke of the Bhagavad Gita and how Vishnu/Krishna tried to encourage Arjuna by saying, Now I become Death, the destroyer of worlds. Oppenheimer was in a similar dilemma to Arjuna. He didnt want to kill, but was faced with a duty because he worked for the military. He had worked on the hydrogen bomb. It had the capability to kill many, but it would end the war. There would be renewal and civilization could start again. The Mahabaratham recounts a similar story thousands of years old, in which advanced weaponry of comparable destructive power to that of the Manhattan Projects hydrogen bomb was employed in warfare: ... (it was) a single projectile Charged with all the power of the Universe. An incandescent column of smoke and flame As bright as the thousand suns Rose in all its splendor... ...it was an unknown weapon, An iron thunderbolt, A gigantic messenger of death, Which reduced to ashes The entire race of the Vrishnis and the Andhakas. ...The corpses were so burned As to be unrecognizable. The hair and nails fell out; Pottery broke without apparent cause, And the birds turned white. After a few hours All foodstuffs were infected... ....to escape from this fire The soldiers threw themselves in streams To wash themselves and their equipment. (The Mahabaratham) History repeated itself in World War Two. Today there are even more Arjunas and Vishnus/Krishnas. When will they be called into action? When will some Arjuna push the button? History is cyclical. It tends to repeat itself till the required lessons are learned. m.youtube/watch?v=lb13ynu3Iac
