In a few decades, climate science will be viewed in the same way psychosurgery, phrenology, eugenics, Lamarckism, & etc are viewed today. This is a shame, since not all of climate science is pseudoscience. But, this is what happens when an ostensible science over-promises and becomes politicized. I think that the history of Lamarckism is especially instructive. It was an interesting theory, which might end up being right (for all we hairless apes know) but that was not consistent with the the most substantive evidence. There have been theorists throughout the centuries who have incorporated neo-Lamarckian ideas into their theories, Jung being the obvious example. But, frankly, Lamarck was so thoroughly defeated in public opinion that most neo-Lamarckists are viewed as cranks.
