In a few minutes I will lock the doors to the studio and go to the funeral of one of my clients. I have tried to avoid thinking about that for the past few days. The day we shot the Kahle family session I knew Melissa had cancer. I knew what this session was about and what it would mean to her and her family. I watched her carefully that day as she watched her kids. Sometimes we look at our children but she seemed to study them...she took in every second. She had reached a time in her life where all the perfection we look for in family pictures and life in general wasnt important anymore. I knew she just wanted for the kids to have fun...to capture them just as they are. Melissa was sweet and thoughtful...purposeful in her words and actions. She was beautiful and memorable. As I shot this image of her and her husband it was hard to hold back tears because I knew I would probably post again on a day like this. I never really knew the Kahles before this shoot but Im thankful that God allowed me to know them and spend this time with them. It will be one of my greatest memories because Melissa taught me how a mother should love her family while enduring the hardest trial of her life. Death seems to steal so much...but it cannot take that perfect summer day from Melissa and her beautiful family. Rest in peace beautiful lady...you will be missed.
