In a follow up to yesterdays Paleo article Dani Shugart takes a look at IF/ Intermittent Fasting. Personally I have tried a few variations and have trained clients using IF. Essentially IF is a diet were you fast for the majority of the day and pack your allotted calories into a small eating window (generally) in the evening. The hardest thing I found about IF was the strictness of the diet, it was extremely hard to follow for any length of time. Did it work?? 1. If weight loss had of been the objective yes, but it wasnt for me! I myself and clients doing it definatley lost weight that part was true. Then again not eating will generally have this effect. However there wasnt any gains on the muscular front so was it good weight? i cant be certain of, yes I looked leaner but it left me feeling flat and weaker. 2. Training Fasted wasn’t for me or my clients. As stated earlier the majority of those who Ive trained and talked to regarding IF felt flat and weak during workouts and numbers stalled or dropped! 3. From a strict performance point of view I wouldn’t recommend IF, personally any diet regime that rules out pre/post workout nutrition and supplementation isn’t for me or one i would recommend to clients. Read Danis article and see what you think! Agree or Disagree?? let me know your experiences with IF. t-nation/diet-fat-loss/fasting-sound-science-behavioral-bs
