In a local film industry filled with technical expertise and world-class equipment, having a heart for storytelling stands out! This is where Director EJ Fernandez wins big. His desire, his drive to tell stories straight from his heart is what shows me that this aspiring filmmaker has hope. Unfortunately for Fernandez, limited resources and experience (or at least inadequate experience on the field for quite some time) keeps him from tapping even close to his potential. For now! Im pretty confident that if you give this man more capable crew and performers, he will provide brilliance! Where Fernandez excels is his knack for dialogue. Ang paspas na kabayo, dili kadagan ug layo! (A fast horse never gets far!) is a great plot in itself. Being a Mass Communication graduate and with a father in the media is probably why Fernandez has a nice grasp on the Bisaya/Cebuano language. It does tend to come off as poetry. What stands out too is EJs performance himself. He knows how to deliver his lines in the perfect tone and demeanour. Perhaps it just comes off naturally for him. What may also be lacking in picture quality is paired with great camera movements that I couldnt help but wish that it was shot in a more capable camera. It shouldnt matter but the undeniable potential of the shots mightve been too distracting. In the end, EJ Fernandez knows what story he wants to tell, what lines he wants delivered and how they are delivered. He simply could use better tools to tell them with. Hes a potentially brilliant painter that needs a better canvas and better brush! In an industry thats probably as young as this director, the younger generation could use more heart like his. https://youtube/watch?v=fvD5CyBe4PU
