In a long ago war, I was told we were there to win hearts and minds. How can you win something that didnt exist within your own side? In the 50s, during the McCarthy hearings, one of the blame games wasWHo lost CHina? The answer was always there...China was never ours to lose, but the politicos used it to bludgeon each other with as well as keep we the people fooled and distracted. The only thing we had to lose was ourselves in our own land ...self determination by the people of other lands was for them. not anyone else. Maybe when we start to learn that, we can begin to heal ourselves here at home and stop the denial that we have become a people with imperial dreams abetted by Hollywood and Madison Avenue. There was nobility in giving our help in stopping the rise of Tolititarianism, but trying to make the world into a carbon copy of ourselves, was an arrogance equal to the enemy that we had defeated. This is a good country and it will always be as long as we remember that we must win hearts and minds at home first. That we must look in the collective mirror and as said in that Pogo strip in so many words We have met the enemy and it is us.
