In a major breakthrough in the alleged rape case of a 17 year old Yairipok Changamdabi Mathak Leikai resident on June 19, locals have managed to pull up a co-accused in the rape case. The man identified as Mamsamayum Md Itocha (28), son of Md Sera Ahmed of Yairipok Changamdabi Mathak Leikai who has confessed to his involvement in the case before media persons and locals yesterday morning said that he drives a van plying along the Imphal-Moreh route. It may be mentioned that the girl was kidnapped and after being raped was dropped off at her residential gate the next day in an unconscious state. From his confession, it is also learnt that the main accused in the alleged rape case is Md Taj Khan, a VDF personnel s/o Md Zaherruddin of Yairipok Singa. Md. Itocha had also recounted that on June 19 last, a group of people led by the main accused Md Taj Khan had came to his house and insisted him to be a part of the plan to kidnap the girl. He maintained that when he turned down the request, someone from amongst the group threatened him showing a gun at which he had no other option but to join in the plan. Condemning the act, the Pradhan of Changamdabi, Imran Khan yesterday alleged that the Superintendent of Police, Thoubal, S.D.P.O Yairipok and the I.O. of the case have been taking the case lightly and demanded their resignation for not handling the case sincerely. “Is there any hidden agenda of Police/Home Department to defend the V.D.F. personnel in the case?” he questioned. Ayub Kori, convenor of the JAC formed in connection with the case also demanded to hand over the main accused to the Home Minister through the local MLA.
