In a place where there are many people, the person - TopicsExpress

In a place where there are many people, the person offering/serving/selling food is always known, better than the person who asked them to assemble. In Chavakali High School we had two common names. 1. Libwoni 2. Omba. Libwoni was that head cook who determined what size of ugali your plate would carry. He behaved like a boss and indeed, his physical appearance suggested he was. Short, heavy, slightly bald and with a kitambi. If you won this mans heart, you will have won the stomach fight in school. Sad enough, the last time I visited Chavakali, Dec last year, I found him cleaning the compound, with almost all the above descriptions not there to be seen. Omba was the name given to the doughnuts being sold at the canteen. The person who used to sell them was a younger brother of the then Mathematics teacher, Mr Ombajo Misava, now lecturing at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa! Hence then name Omba. Those mandazis were so sweet, many ran away from classes to get a bite. Ombajos bro became more famous in school, thanks to this commodity, I heard he bought a huge piece of land and married a beautiful lady!
