In a previous post, I shared a little on the thoughts I have been having about prayer lately, and if I may, I would like to continue on that topic. I would like to start off by talking about just a few of the many prayers listed throughout the Bible. Both Elijah and Elisha were no doubt endued with the Spirit of God, and both were anointed to be God’s spokesmen to their generation. Between the two of them, there are 21 different miracles that are attributed to their hands by the power of God. Yet Elijah had to pray 7 times on Mt. Carmel before he saw the rain come. (1 Kings 18:41-44) In 1 Kings 17:17-22 he prays 3 times for the widow’s son to come back to life. Elisha, in 2 Kings 4:32-35, has to pray twice for the son of the Shunammite woman to be raised from the dead. These were all miraculous answers to multiple prayers for the same thing. They kept at it till they saw the fruit of those prayers, the way they had prayed them. Jumping to the New Testament, we catch up with the apostle Paul and his request to remove his “thorn in the flesh.” He prayed this prayer 3 times, and God’s answer… “My grace is sufficient for thee.” (2 Corinthians 12:7-9) From the sound of that answer, he didn’t get what he was asking for, or did he? Jesus is in the garden of Gethsemane the night of his betrayal by Judas, He prays the same prayer 3 different times. “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” This series of events can be found in Matthew 26:36-46 So, how do we make sense out of Luke 11:9-13 then? ““So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread[a] from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” I think it all comes down to the Father giving us the Holy Spirit. John 16:13-14 states “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.” There are just times we pray amidst of God’s will for our lives, but it is by those prayers that the power of His Spirit is unleashed into our spirit. It is then by His Spirit that we are lead into ALL truth, and He will tell us of things to come. There is great hope, joy and promises in these verses, so don’t let the enemy tell you God is not listening, remember His question to the fathers.
