In a raid which lasted just over an hour, several bombs landed on the Liverpool area on the night of the 12th/13th November 1940. Four high explosives landed within 1/2 a mile of the Edge Hill Railway Goods Station, demolishing three houses and badly damaging others nearby. An incendiary also landed on the roof of the Post Office in Wavertree Road causing slight damage to the roof. The high winds that the city experienced on this night meant that the barrage baloons were not in use, allowing the raiders to fly much lower than usual. One of the sites hit by the raiders was Sidney Place, where ten people died.
