In a recent speech, Putin said a lot of things and I tried to read many articles on the speech to see what he had in his mind. The speech was full of rhetoric again concerning his usual claims of Americas double standards and how America was responsible for the Ukraine crisis, and crisis in many countries around the world which he usually cites to vilify America but what I was looking for was some concrete information about his next move. In the LA Times, he was quoted “The bear is the master of the taiga. It is not going to move to another climate,” the Kremlin leader vowed. “It’s not going to give up its taiga to anyone.”That pretty much signals he has no intention to back down and change his ways. I think that also indicated that Russia is going to undermine democracy and go for further autocracy. I think that is what he meant by not going to move to another climate. latimes/world/europe/la-fg-russia-putin-us-20141024-story.html In the Reuters article, it wrote He made only passing references to the decline of Russias $2 trillion economy, which is in danger of sliding into recession as its currency tumbles along with the price of oil, its main export item. But he said in a question and answer session after his speech that Russia would not burn though its gold and foreign currency reserves thoughtlessly to prop up the economy. Now that is something to think about. This I thought was a clear signal about the direction of Russian economy. Basically, he wants to not spend reserve funds and assets, he rather wants to shift the cost resulted from sanctions, dramatic decline of oil price, Ukraine venture and economic recession out of his mismanagement to the people. If he doesnt support the falling Ruble, the real value of Ruble is going to go down faster, and people will have to suffer for that. If he does not support the falling business by providing governmental funding, business is going to go down faster resulting in widespread pink slips. How is he going to handle the dissatisfaction of the people? Probably upping the rhetoric and blame game through propaganda like we have seen since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis. Another thing to notice is, he is doing exactly the opposite of what USSR did when it found itself in the middle of US/Saudi Arabia Öil War which was to burn cash to pay for keeping the economy afloat and stop it from plunging. He is going to pass all the trouble to the common people, while he himself and his people will hoard the money and assets and continue to hold power that way (with the wise use of money and assets to buy people if needed I suppose). I expect reversal of democratization, further consolidation of power, less human rights, higher control on media/press/freedom of speech etc. in Putins Russia. reuters/article/2014/10/24/us-russia-putin-idUSKCN0ID1A220141024
