In a recent study Dr Michael Smets, one of the faculty for the Oxford Transition to Leadership programme, highlights three critical mechanisms that leaders need to employ to effectively manage competing business demands. Consumers, special interest groups, NGO’s and shareholders are holding even the largest organisations to account and now more than ever business leaders require a clear model for managing competing demands. Dr Smets study suggests that the most successful avoid focussing on a single demand at the expense of others by employing three key tactics: Segmenting, Bridging and Demarcating.
