In a recent survey conducted by the U.S. human resource consultants Mercer showed that Shanghai is now the second most costly city to live in for expats after Hong Kong. The survey was designed to help companies determine allowances for expatriate employees. The cost of living in Shanghai has been constantly growing, however “the city offers improved living conditions that may fit the needs of expatriates.” Quoted Jeffrey Wang, vice president of the Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board.
