In a relatively short period, Ive received a fairly large amount of attention in the triathlon world for sharing my thoughts about the value of fasting in all its forms. In truth, Ive experimented a great deal over the last 20+ years, using various strategies that have included fasting and progressive training in a depleted state. I didnt just jump on the recent fasting bandwagon. While some of the things I do might be described as somewhat extreme by some coaches and athletes in our sport, I think its about time all of us stopped separating how we eat from how we perform long term, and looked toward the future by examining the facts: How you eat impacts your long term health, and ultimately, your performance, short and long term. To be more specific, consuming exorbitant amounts of sugar calories in order to train on a daily basis, or to extend endurance, not only isnt good for your long term health, it might also mean you dont possess the true endurance you think you do. Resist being short sighted! Your LONG TERM health matters! Long term health cant BE SEPARATED from your fitness. Look toward the future and really consider how your eating habits are impacting your long term health. Develop TRUE fitness and endurance, and enjoy the benefits of being in the game for the long haul. :) ~Coach Al
