In a statement released this morning from Ron Stewart, Senior Vice President of Electric Power Associations of Mississippi, a statewide agency that binds the 26 electric cooperatives of Mississippi together, Stewart said, “Electric power associations serving throughout Mississippi experienced outages during Monday’s widespread storms. Our systems serve 85 percent of Mississippi’s land mass, so when a storm hits any area of state, we experience outages. The majority of the reported outages were in central and northeast Mississippi, where 37,800 meters lost electric service. Emergency crews worked through the night and, at this time about 17,000 remain without power. “More than 150 additional emergency crews members from other Mississippi electric power associations were sent to the affected areas to assist local crews. These crews are part of our statewide emergency response team. In addition, emergency crews from Tennessee and Kentucky have arrived in the northeast area of the state to assist in restoring power.” Magnolia Electric Power Association is a part of the Electric Power Associations of Mississippi and as mentioned in other posts, have sent nine of our linemen to the affected areas. Electric Power Associations of Mississippi is a service organization owned by and serving Mississippi’s 26 member-owned electric power associations. These associations distribute electricity to more than 1.8 million Mississippians and serve more than 762,000 meters. They maintain more than 94,400 miles of distribution line. This is an example of Magnolia Electric Power Association and other electric cooperatives across the state working together.
